IHU Ottoman Turkish Summer School 2021 announces online program

 5 July – 27 August 2021, IHU Zoom Platform

The Ibn Haldun University (IHU) Ottoman Turkish Summer School Program offers intensive instruction online in Ottoman Turkish for international students and professionals. This is a full Summer Term that over seven weeks offers twice the transferable credits as a regular 14-week semester. A wholly immersive experience is designed to comprise co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as seminars by top scholars on Turkish history, politics, literature, and art; and cultural events, all online and country-specific adjusted to international time differences.

  • Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels are available
  • 20 hours per week for 7 weeks and 140 class hours
  • Fully credit-transferable, equivalent to two normal semesters
  • Flexible, country-specific classes adjusted to international time differences
  • The tuition fee is USD 1750
  • A further discount (USD 250) available for students recommended by their academic advisors
  • The application deadline is 15th June

Students are given an online skill-based placement test in Ottoman Turkish, prepared and conducted by specialists and experienced instructors, after which they are placed at an appropriate level.

Class times will be flexible and country-specific. The Ottoman Turkish Summer School Directorate will do everything possible to organize students into small “country groups” for which instruction will take place over locally reasonable hours. A minimum of 3 international students will be needed to launch each such class.

Ottoman Turkish courses at all levels offer a “double-intensive” track. International best practice for Ottoman Turkish courses is 5 hours per week, coming to 70 hours over a 14-week Fall or Spring term. At the IHU Ottoman Turkish Summer School, our “double-intensive” track is 7×20=140 hours. This is equivalent to two full semesters of language instruction in a typical US college course. All credits are fully transferable. Personal certificates will also be issued upon the successful completion of each course.

To apply, please fill out the online application form and submit the following documents.

  • CV
  • Transcript
  • Copy of passport ID page
  • A passport size photo
  • A recommendation letter (if you are planning to apply for a tuition fee discount)

The IHU Ottoman Turkish Summer Program is coordinated and developed in collaboration with the IHU School of Languages and the Department of History.
